So wait: the guy in Florida actually burned the Koran?
Afghanistan is pissed off right now because (I'm assuming that it's the same guy. Our lovely, 'on-the-ball' American media has failed to mention otherwise) the Pastor Terry Jones apparently burned a Koran in Florida on March 20th. 14 people, including 7 UN staff in Mazar-E-Sharif were killed Friday in protests and now in a third day of protests (this time spreading to Kandahar and Jalalabad another person has died and 18 more have been injured.)
WTF? The guy burned the Koran? I thought we decided not to do this months ago- but now, apparently he got out his lighter and burned a copy of the Koran. (Per the Beeb: It wasn't Pastor Terry Jones. It was Pastor Wayne Sapp, an apparent underling of Jones, who, under his supervision, soaked the Koran in kerosene, put it on trial, found it guilty of 'crimes against humanity' and then lit the thing up.)
W-T-F? First of all, really? You put a book on trial? Did you read it Miranda? Did it get a trial by a Jury of its peers? Because if it didn't, then Pastor Sapp may well have violated that book's constitutional rights. Heaven forbid.
And second of all: am I crazy? Did this get like ZERO mention in the media or was it just buried in a tiny little corner where no one could see it? And if so, was that strangely responsible of the media or was it gross deriliction of duty on their part, so to speak?
As if we didn't have enough problems in Afghanistan already... awesome.
