John Wooden 1910-2010

Former UCLA Basketball Coach and all-round Balla Legend John Wooden has died at the age of 99. The sporting world has lost a giant today and the game of basketball has lost a visionary and a legend today. I never really knew who John Wooden was until I sat through one of those amazing sports documentaries that shows up on ESPN or HBO from time to time-- you know the ones I mean? You sit there for maybe a minute, thinking 'oh, I'll change the channel in a minute' and then an hour and a half later, you're sitting back on your couch, amazed, and reveling in what you now know that you didn't know before.

A whole generation of pro legends of the NBA came up under Wooden as he head the UCLA Bruins to a string of 10 national titles and a record 88 victories in a row- something that no men's team has come close to matching sense- and the UCONN women still have some work to do next season if they want to match and break this record.

A true legend, the wide of world of sports mourns for the Wizard of Westwood. (And hopefully UCLA can make some noise next season in honor of their former coach.)
