The Avalanche Has Begun...

...Colorado is going to the Pac-10. (Nobody is surprised.) But the real question becomes now is will the rest of the Texas school (minus Baylor) follow. Baylor fans and officials are reportedly lobbying the Texas legislature hard to make sure that if the other Texas schools start a movin' they have to come too. Right now, I think Baylor is the only school that can save something of the Big 12.

If they fail and the rest of the Texas schools bolt to the Pac-10, then this will happen: the Big 10 will get Notre Dame, Mizzou and probably Rutgers/Maryland and maybe even ISU. But Notre Dame for sure. There were also rumors that the Big East was flirting with Kansas.

But it's all on Baylor now, I think.

UPDATED: It's getting political for Iowa State now... Senators Harkin and Grassley want to protect ISU and Iowa fans are angsty (and hate the idea) about Iowa State joining the Big 10. Another random thought: why aren't these schools on the verge of being left behind being more proactive? If I was Kansas or even Iowa State I'd be meeting without Texas and discussion options now- merging with the Mountain West Conference is an interesting idea I saw here. TCU and BYU bring good football, New Mexico, San Diego St. bring good basketball... be proactive Potential Big 12 Orphans! You have a BCS Bowl Berth, the Mountain West does not.

UPDATED AGAIN: See, someone does agree with me!

UPDATED EVEN MORE: The Texas Schools might not be moving as a pack to the Pac-10 just yet... apparently Texas A&M's flirtation with the SEC is getting serious and the Pac-10 is making noises that they may stop at 11 schools (which I doubt.) Another thing to ponder- if Texas does go to the Pac-10, they can kiss their own television network goodbye and would probably lose a lot of their 'punch' as it stands now. With Nebraska gone, the Big 12 would be utterly dominated by Texas and they could reap a lot of benefits from that. If money is driving these moves, money could also stall them out as well.
